garden of the gods + silverthorne

sometimes you just need to grab one of your bests, get in the car, & go watch the sunrise in the mountains. back in february, my kindred spirit christine & i did just that. we had a lil mini road trip to colorado springs & ventured up into the garden of the gods. it was such a beautiful time spent in the Lord's presence with each other, exploring His creation, catching up on each other's lives, holding each other accountable, & building our friendship.

then, later in february, i escaped to the mountains with a group of 22 of my closest friends for a weekend getaway. we all carpooled up to the mountains of silverthorne & crammed into a cabin together. we enjoyed a dinner prepared by some of my friends who are seriously gifted when it comes to practicing hospitality. we had a time of acoustic worship together, with me & my friend brandon trading off on the guitar. we shared about our lives with each other & discussed plans for an upcoming missions trip to haiti (more on that in a way later post). we played games, danced around to "wake" by hillsong young & free, & laughed 'til our abs got a serious workout. as friday night winded down, we sprawled all our sleeping bags on the floor, girls upstairs, guys downstairs, having a huge sleepover. it was awesome.

the next day some of us went snowboarding, & some of us explored the town of silverthorne while doing some shopping. (best believe i was in the snowboarding crew.) snowboarding with friends who always point out good jumps & take you through the best tree routes is the best! having left my phone in the cabin the whole time, i was completely MIA from the busyness of life, with no cell phone service for the whole weekend. again: it was awesome. so needed.

i encourage you to take time to grow the relationships & friendships that God's blessed you with. don't take these precious gifts from the Lord for granted. you never know what could happen tomorrow. take it from someone who lost her daddy unexpectedly & outta the blue about 4 years ago: soak up every minute with those you love. take advantage of the blessings God gives you through those who build you up. surround yourself with those who will make you better, who will add to your life. keep close company with the kind of family & friends who help you grow & learn from your past, while empowering your future... those who will remind you that you are worth loving, that you are spectacular, that God has created you for a purpose. as edmund lee puts it:

“surround yourself with the dreamers, the doers, the believers, the thinkers. but most of all, surround yourself with those who see the greatness within you, even when you don’t see it yourself.”

hope you make time to get out with a friend or a group of friends for some good quality time this week! trust me, it's totally worth it.
