Quick Tips for Creating a Relaxation Area at Home (Part 1)

Am I the only one whose queendom comes into its own at home? I walk around this space with my confidence doin’ the most, you all! It’s really true: transform your space, transform your mindset.

Because many of us women struggle with self-doubt and a lack of confidence in both personal and professional spheres, it’s so important to adventurously show up in our homes. Think about it: how do we expect to do that out in the world if we’re not even doing that first at home?

Encouraging relaxation and rejuvenation at home can be a powerful tool for daily empowerment. It’s one of my favorite things about interior design — letting the Lord minister out of the overflow of my home.

Here’s Part 1 of my Quick Tips for creating a relaxation area in your home:

1. Choose calming colors.

Stick to a palette that’s soothing to you, like soft or bold shades of colors known for their calming effects. Examples: blue, green, or lavender.

Also, what’s calming for you may be different than what’s calming for someone else! It could be a good idea to look around your space as it is already to see what colors are existing, or to glance in your closet at your favorite pieces of clothing that help you feel empowered and most comfortable.

2. Embrace natural light.

Make the most of the natural light you have available to help create a serene setting. Sheer curtains are a perfect addition to manage privacy without sacrificing sunlight! I wanna add some in our master bedroom.

If you don’t have any windows in the area you’re working with, lamps can also add to the serenity in a space, especially if you choose warm bulbs for it. There are also lamps that imitate natural light, if you wanna go that route!

3. Add plants.

Bring in greenery for a breath of fresh air. Indoor plants not only purify the air, but they also add a tranquil vibe to your space.

Some of my favorite easy plants are the Jade Pothos plant (pictured here), the ZZ plant, and the Spider plant. I love growing my plants in Leca, because it helps to make taking care of our many plants easier and more managable for me.
